Thursday afternoon Katrina was practicing cartwheels and handstands while we waiting for Maddie's soccer practice to be over. I was watching her pretty closely and nervously because she isn't the most coordinated kid in the world. I saw her fall and get up holding her arm and knew something was up. Poor kid came over crying and holding her right arm close to her side. I saw some swelling so grabbed one of those disposable ice packs(yes, I keep things like that in car. Usually it's me who gets hurt though.). The swelling went down almost immediately so I figured maybe a sprain or something.
Fast forward to Saturday morning and she was still favoring the arm. We were in the midst of our yard sale(which went great!! We made a bundle!) but Josh noticed a little bump on her wrist and called her over. He gently squeezed her wrist and we heard a popping/squicky noise. He looked at me and said, "Uh, yeah, I'm going to take her to the ER."
They come home a couple of hours later and she had a lovely foam cast and ace bandage on proudly carrying a Happy Meal box. Apparently she has greenstick fractures on both the radius and the ulna but they want us to take her to our regular doctor and he will determine whether or not she gets a real cast. That part kind of ticks me off because now we have to pay an ER visit plus a copay. That stuff adds up. Plus, if she gotten the cast at the ER, we wouldn't have to pay for it. Now we will. Super. And if he sends me to an ortho, that's even more. I guess it's a good thing we had the yard sale this weekend, huh?

From our experience, they never cast in the ER anymore. It's always in the ortho's office. (We have WAY too much experience with this.)
At least she did it during the school year. It really stinks when it's summer and they don't have the "fun" benefits of getting out of school stuff (you know, writing and stuff).
At least she can pick out a really obnoxious color. My next cast will be fluorescent orange.
